This time of year has me all nostalgic…I love the lights, the tree [we’re going to get ours tonight!], the cookies, the gifts, the giving…all of it. I even love the snow. [Which is a very good thing since I live in western PA!]
But when I think about how Christmas makes me feel…this year it’s reminding me of something different. It’s reminding me of how everything changed…the day Jesus came. The very minute Jesus was conceived in Mary’s womb, the very minute the Savior of the world took his first breath…everything changed.
It was all the sudden a new playing field. The Savior of the world, the Messiah, the One everyone was waiting for…he had come. He came in a humble, quiet sort of way. But he came with Promise! Promise of a new covenant, promise of new life for those who choose to believe in him, for those who know him as Savior.
He walked the same earth we walk, he felt the very same feelings we feel, he was tempted by satan and showed victory over him! He set the example for every believer. And then he died for us…and rose again in victory. Now…because of what he’s done…we have the gift of relationship with him, the gift of the Holy Spirit to always be with us and help us, the gifts of hope and peace!
This Christmas I pray you allow the gift of Jesus to change things…just the way things changed when he came. Allow Christ, in you, to shine to all those around you. Allow him to change the way you see people. Allow him to work through you to reach those around you.
It’s almost time to celebrate…everything is about to change!
John 1:4 “So the Word became human and made his home among us. He was full of unfailing love and faithfulness. And we have seen his glory, the glory of the Father’s one and only Son.”
2 Corinthians 9:13 “Thanks be to God for his indescribable gift!”
