Friendship, It’s A Beautiful Thing

Friends!  You know, the ones you laugh with until your cheeks hurt…the ones who pick you up when you’re down…the ones who pray for you, who check on you when you’re sick…you know, the ones you would never, ever replace for anything.  Lately I’ve been thinking about how very thankful I am for friendships.  Some last forever and some just for a season.  But they’re all something I am thankful for…

It’s a funny story, really…the other day my husband decided to surprise me.  He booked a hotel, bought flowers and planned to surprise me with a wonderful night away…alone!!!  [Please note how much I crazy/insane love my kiddos, but a quiet night alone is a beautiful and rare occurrence!!]

Unfortunately, I had gotten sick and as he was telling me my surprise…I was in bed and not even opening my eyes because all I wanted to do was sleep.  Poor man.  He tried.  He really did. And I continued to sleep for 18 hours!!!  Holy heavens.  lol.  He sat on the bed with his hand on my head, and he prayed for me.  Not out loud, but I knew what he was doing…he didn’t complain that his plans had been ruined and he didn’t mention that he had lost $100 🙂  Instead he took the kids out of the house, to dinner and then to the hotel [because the money was non-refundable on less than 24 hour notice] and let them swim.  He loved me and let me sleep in a quiet house.

Reverse 4 or so days before this day…I answered a call from a great friend who happens to live HOURS from me, and we don’t get to talk very often.  It so blessed me to be able to take some time, lay on my bed and laugh and cry and pray over the phone together!!  She had been praying for me and my family…and shared some words from the Lord that blessed my heart.  Blessed me in a way that only God can.  I pressed “end” that day with a smile from ear to ear and a refreshing in my spirit!

Reverse again, to March of this year…my 40th birthday!!!!  Woot, woot!!  An amazing friend of mine had spent a very long time, hand-making a gift for me.  A gift that meant the world.  A box…full of “Truths”, scriptures…with the cutest little cards in each one.  40 cards were in that box of truth, in honor of my 40th birthday.  Each card hand written, with a heart to speak Jesus’s words to me whenever I might be having a hard time.  Amazing.

If I try to explain why friendships are so near and dear to my heart, I am afraid I would come up terribly short.  I have been blessed in this lifetime to have some pretty amazing friends [and yes, I include my husband at the very top of that list!] that love me despite my failures, encourage me to dream God sized dreams and on top of that…they love to have fun!!

Proverbs 27:9  “A sweet friendship refreshes the soul.”

I guess what I want to say here is, I’m thankful for my friends.  Every single one of them.  Thankful to God for the gift they are to me.  Thankful for how they refresh me.

Maybe you have a friend that comes to mind, today you should reach out and thank them or let them know just how much they mean to you.  If you are looking for a friend like that, pray about it…I just know the Lord will bless your answer!!

For you:

A day with friendship and laughter
