Through the Storm

Last week a rough storm came rolling through the area.  It’s that time of year, April showers bring May flowers, right?  Sometimes April showers bring severe thunderstorms too!

That night I was at a women’s night, and the night was almost over.  We had worshipped the Lord, heard from His Word…and were just about to close the night with one more song when I heard thunder.  And I don’t mean little thunder…[I think I just made that up, lol. “little thunder”]  Anyways, it was some serious, LOUD thunder.

I’m standing there thinking/pleading “Please don’t let the lights go out”.  And then thinking…”the lights are going to go out…” and then “Please don’t let the lights go out…”,  “the lights are going to go out…”  lol.

And then it happened, the lights in the entire church went out.  Yep, right in the middle of our last song…and honestly, it couldn’t have been more perfect timing.  The thunder and rain outside was LOUD and HARD, but the voices singing praises inside…they were louder still… With no words on the screens, no instruments, and only emergency lighting…women lifting their voices, above the storm, as if shouting a beautiful declaration…

“You are good, good, oh-oh!

You’re never gonna let, never gonna let me down…”

Over and over…”You are good, good, oh-oh”

As the storm outside raged…

All I could hear were women’s voices…praising their God through the storm.

Whatever it is you find yourself in the middle of right now…I can promise you, God is big enough, He’s strong enough…and He is more than able to calm those storms.  He is the same yesterday, today and forever [Hebrews 13:8]…and that means, the wind and the waves still obey His voice.  [Matt. 8]

To my surprise, after that last song of worship, people actually stayed.  They ate desserts, sat at tables in the dark, lit only by a small candle… and they laughed…  It was the most beautiful picture.

Even when the storm is raging, there is peace in Jesus.

When all seems out of control, you can still praise God with joy in your heart.

Even when you don’t know the outcome.  He is still GOOD.

And as my youngest just said to me the other day…staring up at the sky & in the sweetest little 4 year old voice…

“Mommy, the sun awways comes back after a stowm…”

“Yes, sweet girl, you’re so right…the sun does always come back after a storm.”

  1. Jen, thank you for the sweet reminder that we can continue to praise him through the storm. We do not need to worry. He has us. We do not need to fret. He has us. We do need to look at Him and if we must look at the storm…look at it through His eyes and His perspective! He has us. How can we not want to praise Him for the joy that has been set before us?!

    1. Jen this song has been on KLUV radio yesterday and today. So many people affected by this bad weather. I remember my mother going to the basement of our home when I was a child. She was so afraid. This song is so reassuring. Just wanted to share
“He spoke to the waves and they obeyed.
I will not fear! Through the eye of the storm you remain in control and in the middle of the war you guard my soul! You alone are the anchor when my sails are torn. Your love surrounds me in the eye of the storm!”
